Copley scrubs the data but not before Andy has a chance to review it. Seeing Nicky and Joe in the lab sickens her stomach and sets her blood raging all over again. She has to remind herself they're in the next room, safe, not strapped down and subject to experiments. The camera aimed at the door captures Nile bursting through, slamming it shut, and fending off-
"Stop," she orders.
Copley stabs at a button.
"Back it up a few frames."
Meta Kozak, who was in the process of falling, rights herself as the footage plays in reverse.
Andy curses herself and shakes her head.
Copley looks back up at her over his shoulder, a questioning expression in his eyes and on his face. "What is it?"
"Let it run."
The scene unfolds as she remembers. Nile releases her and she in turn moves to free the others, their voices absent from the recording. They group and exit through the same door in search of Merrick. Everything is still.
"Should I switch to another camera?"
"No, stay on this one."
They watch for another ten minutes before the feet at the bottom right of the recording start to twitch and eventually turn. Then disappear. Kozak stumbles across the screen, holding a hand to her bleeding head. The angle catches only a third of her as she leans over her desk. Urgency strikes her and as fast as she can manage, she packs up her laptop and flees through the open door.
Andy's gaze bores a hole through her back as she retreats.
"Oh my god," Copley whispers to himself.
"Was that laptop on the network?"
His fingers fly across the keyboard. "No," he's finally forced to admit.
"I want to know everything there is to know about this woman."
